Terms & Conditions

Foundry Cast Iron Ltd. always recommend that our customers do not install their pipes until their radiator arrives. All dimensions are approximations and therefore can vary slightly, so to avoid disappointment have your plumber fit your pipes to match your radiator. It's not a problem if you already have the pipes in place but please contact us before you place an order and we will advise of the best options and solutions.

PRICES

All prices include VAT at 20%. Prices that are quoted on our site, are correct to the best of our knowledge, however, if an error has been made we will contact you to advise you of the amended price, to allow you the option to continue or cancel the order.

BESPOKE CAST IRON RADIATOR FINISHES

With the wide range of styles available, manufacturers offer a multitude of finishes to customise the radiators. Different manufacturers use a variation of paint finishes and have developed a variety of techniques to enhance their pieces. The finishes create stunning radiators to capture the imagination.

When radiators and baths are shipped, they are inspected and carefully packaged, but due to their bulk, some minor scratches may occur during transit or when being moved into place. Unfortunately, this is almost impossible to avoid, and we will not be able to be responsible for this. Touch-up paint is supplied by most manufacturers, with all orders free of charge. Any obvious damage during delivery is completely different – see ‘DELIVERY’.

Product Colours & Finishes Disclaimer

Please call us if you have any special painting requests or to request a current sample.

Colours should be only taken as a guide. Most PC screen resolutions differ so products can look different on different computers. LED screens and paint pigments do not reflect light in the same way, so variations in how a photo appears and the finished product may occur. If ordering the same painted radiator finish in separate batches, it is possible that the paint may appear slightly different in shade.

Cast Iron Texture

The texture of cast iron is rough, partly due to the sand-casting process and due to the nature of the ferrous (iron) metal, as it is quite rough and porous. Batches of radiators in the same style can also vary, due to the age of the sand cast that is used to mould them. Some paints have leveling substances in them that can even out the surface of cast iron, but others do not. Lumps and bumps will be visible, especially with light-coloured finishes which will highlight this texture the most.

Primer Finish

A standard radiator is painted with a primer before it is assembled to your specification. If it is ordered in the standard primer finish no other finishing or re-painting is done after assembly. It is expected that the customer will re-prime and paint the radiator themselves. Each section starts life with a coat of primer, which could be black, grey or a shade of white, but this is not a guaranteed “finish" as the radiator will not be sealed. We strongly recommend that the painting is completed by the manufacturer as they use suitable radiator paint that won't be affected by the heat. If customers are to choose & paint their own radiators, we do advise seeking advice from a paint professional. The paint finish will not be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

RAL Paints

RAL colours are mixed to industrial paint standard finishes. Each section is painted in a 2-pack paint. The most common way is using colours from the RAL Colour Standard which is the most common classification for painting in architecture and industry. Each colour has a RAL number and name. The 2 pack paints contain hardeners that are tested across a variety of painting industries.

Designer Paints

As designer paints have been developed to convey unique colour finishes or contain natural pigments, they do not always contain the same hardeners as industrial paints. Due to the nature of designer paints, these are less hardwearing and can scratch more easily. Designer paints are made in batches so slight variations in colour appearance can occur.

Some manufacturers have tested and worked with designer paints to offer the range of colour finishes that are on offer. Farrow & Ball® Estate Eggshell and Little Greene® Intelligent Eggshell are used by some manufacturers. All retail samples are emulsion-based paint. We cannot always offer samples as these are not stocked finishes. Many eco paints are designed to not contain certain hardeners or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) as these are gases that can be emitted into the environment.

Some manufacturers will only provide colour-match paints for cast iron in bathrooms. As many designer paints are water-based these do not always provide enough protection to cast iron in adverse temperature or humid environments.

Colour matching to Designer Paints

Colour matching to Farrow & Ball® and Little Greene® is also possible. Samples cannot always be provided due to the large range of colour. Colour matches can vary in tone and shade due to the paint manufacturing process. Farrow & Ball® and Little Greene® use a variation on natural and synthetic pigments to some industrial paints. Due to differences in capturing colour and the paint mixing process, variations to the colour match can occur.

Polished / Living Finishes

Each manufacturer polishes cast iron a bit differently to bring out the best of raw cast iron. All manufacturers have different styles of polish ranging from the more rustic look all the way to a mirror-like finish, as well as a highlight polish. Polishing creates a stunning finish which is also a 'living' finish, so some patina or surface rust and oxidation is expected over time. These products will not be polished in between sections or on the joining collar at the bottom of the radiator as they will be hidden under normal installation. Some brands do not polish the wall-facing sides as standard but will for an additional charge.

All polished finishes are hand-finished, so variations in the final product can occur. For those radiators which are supplied in a polished finish, they will either be oiled or lacquered. Any surface oxidation would not be considered a fault and would not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Oiled radiators require regular minor maintenance to prevent surface oxidation or patina. This can be done with fine wire wool or metal finishing pads and a lint-free cloth, with 3 in One multipurpose oil (non-silicone based) to finish.

Lacquer will help prevent surface oxidation, however, it will not stop the patina from occurring especially if the radiator is in a humid wet room or has wet clothes or other items placed on the radiator. Patina or surface rust and oxidation can be removed with fine wire wool after taking the lacquer off first, then relacquer to complete the process.

When left without a protective coating, these materials age gracefully in their natural state. Natural patinas and graduations on the finish occur so their appearance can be expected to change over time, which is why it is referred to as the ‘living finish’. Some metal surfaces can have an altered appearance over time. Raw cast iron, unsealed copper, nickel, bronze, and brass are metals that patina. A non-ferrous metal like copper has no iron content, giving it a higher resistance to rust and corrosion. A true living finish occurs on a non-lacquered unprotected surface, that changes over time.

Antiquing / Aging

The aged finishes are achieved by firstly painting the base colour. Once this has dried is it over-painted with a dark or light colour. While wet, the topcoat of paint is removed in specific areas to create a stunning two-tone look. This is particularly effective on ornate radiators to emphasise the patterns. Each piece is unique and bespoke due to how it is finished by hand, so variations can occur.

Highlighting

Especially popular on patterned cast iron radiators like the Daisy or Rococo. The highlight paint effect is totally unique, the moulded detail of every ornate cast iron radiator is guild paste highlighted by hand, on top of the contrasting base colour in a choice of rich gold, striking pewter, or warm copper. These are a delicate finish, previously unlacquered, these finishes are sometimes lacquered to protect the guild paste. Each piece is unique and bespoke due to how it is made by hand, so variations can occur.

Hand Gilding

Gold & copper leaf can be gilded by hand onto your radiator & can be aged black, purple, red, or verdi gris. Each piece is unique and bespoke due to how it is made by hand, so variations can occur.

Showroom Samples

We try where possible to have as many finishes to show as possible. All samples are displayed in good faith & variations in finishes can occur, as all bespoke radiators are custom-built.

Depending on the radiator manufacturer, pallet delivery charges may be incurred. Up to four radiators can be packed onto one Pallet. Cast Iron Baths are delivered FREE to standard UK postcodes. Please contact us if you need more information. Fireplace surrounds are also sent on pallets but at no charge. For delivery purposes, cast iron towel rails are treated the same as radiators. If you live in the Highlands and Islands (These postcodes: AB, DD, FK, HS1-9, IV, KA 27-28, KY, KW, PA, PH, ZE2, ZE1) you are probably well used to surcharges for living in such a beautiful part of the UK so please contact us to get an up to date delivery price, as prices vary between manufacturers. We can and do deliver worldwide so again, please contact us to get the up-to-date best delivery prices.

All deliveries of Radiators, Baths, Stoves, and Fireplaces are delivered on pallets due to their weight. These are delivered kerbside to the street level of the delivery address. There must be access for the lorry and pallet truck so please bear this in mind. The delivery will be made by a single driver. The driver will wheel the pallet as close to your property as possible, but cannot go over steps, grass, or gravel. Pallet delivery companies will not permit their drivers to unpack the pallets or enter customers' dwellings. Delivery is deemed to have been completed when a consignment note has been signed by an individual who is 18 or over. Pallet deliveries are extremely heavy so please make arrangements in advance to have enough help available when delivery is made.

Generally, the delivery of our unfinished radiators or baths takes less than 10 working days. Our "ready-made radiators" are delivered in around 3 working days. RAL Paint finishes are normally delivered within 15 working days. Special finishes take up to 20 working days. All delivery quotations are estimates and Foundry Cast Iron cannot be held liable for any variance to those stated. Fire surround delivery usually takes around 3 working days.

If products have to be placed on special order the lead time can increase and you would be advised of this in due course.

Delivery times are merely indicative and are non-binding. Foundry Cast Iron cannot be held liable for any losses incurred by the purchaser, due to late delivery of the order or part thereof. The purchaser is responsible for the supply of all relevant information to facilitate the quoted delivery time e.g. any access issues, fully correct postal address & contact number, etc.  We will be charged for any re-deliveries and we will have to pass this cost to the customer.  We ask that the drivers contact the customer 1hr before delivery, but cannot guarantee this will happen.  Please bear in mind that cast iron is heavy and will require at least 2 strong persons to move radiators, baths etc. once delivered kerbside.

Valves and Accessories are sent free of charge using a Next Day Service. Orders placed before 2 pm should arrive on the next working day. This service is not available for The Scottish Highlands and Islands or Northern Ireland. We can offer Saturday and Early Morning Deliveries if required, please phone for the price.

Please note all products should be checked on delivery to check there has been no transit damage to the product. If there has been please email us on info@foundrycastiron.co.uk within the 24 hours with photos of the damage, to allow us to make a claim against the courier where we will then be in a position to supply replacement items or parts. In the case of pallet deliveries, the delivery company is required to wait 10 minutes to allow for checking of transit damage. Do not sign if you have not checked as claims cannot be made at a later date if the delivery has been accepted.  Again, please take a photograph and contact us immediately if there is any transit damage.
