Delivery, Receiving & Storage Guide

Because our traditional cast iron radiators, towel rails, and freestanding baths are premium, heavy-duty goods, their delivery requires a little more planning than standard parcels. Please read this guide carefully to prepare for your delivery day.

Delivery Lead Times & Estimates

Because many of our products are highly customised, hand-built, or finished to order, dispatch times vary depending on what you have selected.

  • Ready-Made Radiators: Our stock items and fast-track ranges are usually pre-assembled and are typically delivered in around 3 working days.

  • Bespoke Items & Custom Finishes: Custom builds and specialist paint or polished finishes take longer. Please contact us directly for up-to-date lead times, as manufacturers' timings change throughout the year.

  • Accessories & Valves: Most standalone accessories are sent free of charge using APC or Royal Mail Tracked 24. Orders placed before 2:00 pm should arrive on the next working day (excluding weekends).

Important Liability Notice: All delivery timelines and quotations are strictly estimates, merely indicative, and completely non-binding. Foundry Cast Iron Ltd cannot be held liable for any financial losses or project delays incurred by the purchaser due to late delivery of an order or any part of it. We strongly advise that you do not book your plumber or installer until your items have arrived safely on site and have been fully inspected.

How Pallet Deliveries Work

  • Kerbside Ground Floor Only: All heavy deliveries (Radiators, Baths, Fireplace Surrounds, and Towel Rails) are made kerbside to the ground floor level of your delivery address.

  • Surface Restrictions: The delivery driver will have a manual pallet truck to wheel the shipment as close to your property as possible on a flat, hard surface. The truck cannot travel over steps, grass, gravel, or unpaved inclines. Drivers are not insured or permitted to lift items into your property or handle stairs.

  • Arrange Help in Advance: Cast iron is exceptionally heavy. You are responsible for arranging adequate physical help to unload and move the items indoors. At least 2 strong, able-bodied people are required to move radiators or baths once delivered kerbside.

  • Completion of Delivery: Delivery is officially deemed completed when the consignment note has been signed by an individual who is 18 years of age or over.

Receiving and Inspecting Your Delivery (2 step rule)

Step 1: The 10-Minute Transit Damage Check (While the Driver is Present)

Before you sign the courier's delivery note, you have a 10-minute window to check the pallet.

  • What to look for: Inspect the shipment for any obvious signs of transport damage such as damaged packaging.

  • Do not sign blind: If the driver is in a hurry, do not let them pressure you into signing without performing this check. Once you sign the delivery note as "received in good condition," we cannot claim against the haulage company for transit damage.

  • If you spot damage: Refuse the delivery, take a photograph immediately, send it to us and call our team on 01903 366440 OR if you don't think the contents are damaged, accept delivery and send photos to us.

Step 2: The 24-Hour Inspection

Once the pallet has been accepted and moved safely inside, you must completely unwrap each individual radiator to inspect it thoroughly.

  • What to look for: You have 24 hours from delivery to report any other defects, cosmetic issues, or missing components that were not visible on the outer pallet packaging.

  • How to report: If you spot any issues, email clear photographs to info@foundrycastiron.co.uk or call us within this 24-hour window.

  • Liability Notice: Because we must report all transit and stock issues to our manufacturers and transport partners immediately, Foundry Cast Iron Ltd cannot accept liability or process replacements for any damage or defects reported after this 24-hour window has passed.

(Please note: Minor paint scratches are not considered damage—a complimentary pot of touch-up paint is supplied free of charge with most orders to blend these in easily).

Postcode Surcharges & Access Restrictions

  • The Highlands and Islands: If you live in the Scottish Highlands or Islands (specifically postcodes: AB, DD, FK, HS1-9, IV, KA 27-28, KY, KW, PA, PH, ZE1, ZE2), delivery prices vary significantly between different manufacturers. Please contact us directly before ordering to get an accurate, up-to-date delivery quote. (Note: Next-day delivery for accessories is not available for these postcodes or Northern Ireland—deliveries will be handled via Royal Mail and will take a few days longer).

  • Worldwide Shipping: We regularly deliver worldwide! Please contact our team directly to get the best international shipping rates for your project.

  • Access Issues & Re-Delivery Fees: The purchaser is entirely responsible for supplying all relevant information to facilitate delivery. If you have narrow access lanes, low bridges, or restricted space for a large lorry, you must tell us upon ordering. If a delivery fails due to unnotified access issues or because no one was home, the haulage network will charge a re-delivery fee, which we must pass on to the customer.

  • Driver Callbacks: We always ask the delivery drivers to phone the customer before arrival, but please note that we cannot guarantee this will happen.

Storage & Finish Protection

  • Delayed Delivery Charges: When a product build has been completed by the manufacturer but you are unable to accept delivery on site, storage beyond 2 weeks may incur storage charges. Please contact us if your site schedule changes.

  • Unwrapping Polished Finishes: Radiators with a polished finish are highly susceptible to surface patina or oxidation if the bare metal is exposed to damp or humid conditions.

  • Preventing Condensation: Immediately upon delivery, you must remove any plastic transit wrapping that will trap moisture and encourage condensation to remain on the metal. Cover them with a clean, breathable fabric cover instead.

  • Storage Environment: Store all items in a completely dry, climate-controlled indoor environment until your plumber is ready to install them. If a natural patina does occur during storage, please refer to the manufacturer's maintenance guide to refresh the finish.
